Clearview Reads 2022

The Clearview Library District and the Clearview Library District Friends and Foundation will host James Campbell, author of Braving It as part of the Clearview Reads series on Saturday, March 19, at Severance High School.

The evening will begin with an outdoor pre-talk party at Severance High School at 5:30pm, outside on their courtyard patio. We will have snacks and drinks fireside, and a chance to meet James and Aiden and book signing. This pre-talk event will be open to “Friend of the Library” members only. Friend of the Library memberships are available for purchase ($15) on our website and will be available for purchase at the door.

The author talk with Campbell will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium with a book signing immediately following.

Tickets are $5 for the author talk, which can be purchased below. Proceeds benefit the Friends and Foundation’s Clearview Reads fund.

James Campbell is the author of four books. For his first book, The Final Frontiersman, he logged hundreds of miles across Arctic Alaska. The Final Frontiersman was chosen by Amazon as its #1 Outdoor title and one of the Top 50 books of the Year. Campbell’s fascination with New Guinea and WWII led him to the story of the Ghost Mountain Boys, and his groundbreaking book of the same name, which the Chicago Tribune called “one of the best nonfiction titles of the year.” The book also won the 2008 RR Donnelley Award, given for the highest literary achievement by a Wisconsin author. Campbell’s story of his 2006 expedition to New Guinea, “Chasing Ghosts,” appeared in Outside magazine and was chosen for The Best American Travel Writing 2008. Kirkus calls Campbell’s third book, The Color of War, "A fine account of a little-known milestone in the battle for civil rights." Campbell’s latest book, Braving It, was an Amazon Editor’s Pick for Best Memoirs and won the Silver Medal in the prestigious Lowell Thomas Award. His story “Star Power” for Outside about sailing through Micronesia with the world’s last star navigators was a Notable Selection for The Best American Science and Nature Writing.
